Urgent & Sick Pet Care
Illness & Urgent Care for Dogs & Cats
At Long Meadow Veterinary Clinic, urgent care is a team effort—if you’re concerned, we’re concerned. Pets can’t tell us what hurts, so when something seems off, please come in. We’ll listen, assess, and create a plan that fits your pet and your life. We keep visits as calm and personalized as possible for both pets and pet parents.
We’ll work with you to get your pet seen on an urgent basis—through a drop-off or a reserved time the same day. We also offer limited evening appointments. Call us and we’ll guide you on the best next step.

What to Expect at an Urgent Visit
- Triage & Intake—Tell us what you’re seeing; we’ll prioritize based on urgency.
- Targeted Exam—Gentle, low-stress handling to keep your pet as calm as possible.
- Right-Fit Diagnostics—Options may include lab work, X-ray, ultrasound, and more for quick clarity.
- Clear Plan & Follow-Through—We’ll outline treatment, home care, and when to update us—simple and step-by-step.
Signs Your Pet May Need to Be Seen
Whenever a pet looks or acts “off” in any way, it’s worth a check. If you notice any of the following, please reach out:
- Vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach issues
- Changes in bathroom habits (going more or less frequently)
- Lethargy or a noticeable drop in energy
- Excessive licking/chewing paws or licking excessively anywhere
- Changes in appetite or weight
- Bad breath
- Dropping food or chewing “weirdly”
- Itching or shaking the head
- Wounds, limping, or injuries
If you suspect a life-threatening emergency (trouble breathing, collapse, uncontrolled bleeding, seizures), head to the nearest emergency hospital immediately.
After-Hours Guidance
If urgent concerns arise after hours and can’t wait, we recommend Animal ER of Northwest Houston. Mention you’re a Long Meadow client to receive a discount on the exam fee.
